If you are using Firefox and experiencing problems when editing content in Joomla — specifically where the TinyMCE editor keeps reloading, flashing, or constantly refreshing while typing — this article explains the solution.
What Is the Problem?
A bug was initially identified in Firefox Developer Edition, where the Joomla TinyMCE editor would continuously reload or flash when entering content.
At the time, the issue appeared to be limited to the Developer Edition. However, the same bug is now present in the stable release of Firefox v148, meaning regular Firefox users are also affected.
If you are running Firefox version 148 and your Joomla TinyMCE editor constantly refreshes, reloads, or flashes while typing, this is the same issue.
The Fix
The official fix has already been merged into Joomla core and will be included in the next scheduled Joomla releases. However, as those releases are still a few weeks away, the fix is available now so you don’t need to wait.
The upcoming Joomla releases already include this patch, so installing it now is completely safe and only needs to be done once.
Available Versions
There are two versions of the fix available:
- Joomla 5.4.3
- Joomla 6.0.3
You can download the appropriate version from:
https://github.com/brianteeman/tinymce-firefoxfix/releases
How to Install the Fix
- Download the ZIP file that matches your Joomla version.
- Extract the following files:
tinymce.jstinymce.min.js
- Upload both files to your Joomla site, replacing the existing files in the following folder:
media/plg_editors_tinymce/js
Make sure the two files with the same names are overwritten.
Final Step
After uploading the files, you may need to clear or refresh your browser cache to ensure Firefox loads the updated TinyMCE scripts the next time you edit content.
Once completed, the Joomla TinyMCE Firefox flashing and reloading issue should be fully resolved.
