On January 22nd 2008 Joomla! 1.5 was first released to the world. It's hard to believe that joomla is now one year old.
It was a long time coming but for me at least the wait was worthwhile. Without the flexibility and power of 1.5 I would never have been able to produce complex sites like www.reformjudaism.org.uk and www.mitzvahday.org.uk or this blog.
Since its release it has been downloaded a lot, I wont quote a figure as all statistics lie. I wonder how many real world joomla 1.5 powered web sites there are now?
I know that in the last year I've personally been involved with more sites for Fortune 500 companies than ever before. I used to get excited whenever I was contacted by a household name or saw a big name site powered by joomla. I don't anymore, it happens too often.
Now I just sit back and smile knowing that in some small way I helped get the joomla ball rolling.
I'm sure others will write longer blog posts about the birthday with more details but for now i just wanted to say
"Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday to You,
Happy Birthday dear Joomla 1.5,
Happy Birthday to You!"
