You might think Hollywood heartthrob Chris Pratt and the open-source content management system Joomla have absolutely nothing in common. One blasts aliens across galaxies; the other powers websites across the internet. But hold onto your mixtapes, because the universe is smaller (and nerdier) than you think.
In a world shaped by digital experiences, Joomla is more than just software. It is a movement rooted in collaboration, community, and a shared responsibility to create a better web.
For a long time, I assumed alt text was only for people who are completely blind — people who couldn’t see an image at all and needed a full verbal replacement for what others could see. So when uploading a staff headshot on a contact form, I’d think, “What’s the point? It’s just a face.”
In the world of open source, leadership is less about authority and more about influence. It is not defined by job titles or organizational charts. It is about creating the conditions for others to succeed.
On August 17th Joomla will be 20 years old.
To celebrate Joomla's 10th birthday I created a web site called SpreadTheJoomlaLove. After spending months thinking about the site I finally found the time (aka I beat the procrastination bug) to completely rebuild it for 2025.
