During CMSexpo many people were boring me to tears with how great twitter is.
At the time I'd never used it and really couldn't see it's purpose.
Then I found an excellent blog post "People in the Joomla Community using Twitter" so I thought I would give it a try.
Apologies to regular readers for the lack of updates this week but it's been a very interesting few days.
Almost all my work this week has in some way or other been in the security sphere.
Last year I blogged about my personal backup procedures.
No matter how many times I say it people still don't listen.
Backing up your data is your responsibility and yours alone.
Ask a lawyer an opinion and they will give you one but is it the correct one.
Every lawyer has their own speciality area, and the good ones will even tell you in advance that your question is not within their area of expertise, but they all give you a legal "opinion" based on what you want to hear.
Sadly lawyers are like prostitutes, the oldest profession in the world, if you pay them enough money, or are a big enough client, they will find a way to achieve your goal.
Recently I've spent quite a lot of time looking at how users actualy use a website, where the mouse goes, what the eye scans etc.
It has also been interesting comparing how users with a mouse work differently to those with a trackpad. So as a bit of "Friday fun" have a look at this experimental web site that I bookmarked some time ago.
Can you resist to click
[warning: this will either inspire you to throw the mouse away or to throw it at the screen.]
I logged into my gmail account today to see that I can now chose templates.
Along with the usual colour variants and subtle style changes there are some funkier templates for Ninjas, Kids, graffiti artists etc.
I wonder how long it will be before gmail template clubs open up?
This week I was approached by a book publisher, to review their books on this site. After pointing them to my blog honesty post they agreed to send me two of their latest books for review.
Unfortunately it is not possible to review them because the publisher, Packt, doesn't trust me or you.
Is your domain HEF?
Selecting a name for your new site is perhaps the most important thing you will ever do. Of course the content and design is important but if no one can remember your name all that time and effort will be wasted.
You'll find loads of sites on the net telling you the golden rules of domain name selection:
Keep It Simple Stupid
Where do you stop. You've got a great idea for an extension but at what point do you say enough is enough and release. There has to be a point in the development of an extension where adding additional features actualy detracts from the effectiveness of the extension rather than adding to it.
