Joomla Community Xmas Carol

Joomla community xmas carolI've been trying to think of a light hearted and topical blog post for this time of year when I remembered a tweet requesting a Joomla Xmas Carol.

Below you will find "my" version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" and I've taken a few liberties with the numbers.

I'm sure you can do better either by offering an alternative line for this Carol or with your own Joomla Carol.

On the first day of Christmas,
my Joomla! gave to me
ACL in Joomla! 1.6 ACL in Joomla! 1.6

Blowing my own trumpet

Blowing my own trumpetLast night I was excited, honoured and suprised to win the ComputerWeekly.com Open Source Blog of the Year Award. But this isn't really an award for me it's an award for you.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for the blog, everyone who has given me inspiration for an article, Marc Ozin from ReformJudaismReformJudaism for nominating me in the first place and two very special people.

The original idea for the blog came from Fotis EvangelouFotis Evangelou who pestered me to start writing until it was easier for me to start than it was to shut him up and Chris MarinouChris Marinou who is the brains and talent behind the template design. Without the two of them this blog this blog would never have happened.

IT Blog Awards 2009: Open Source

It doesn't happen often, in fact I think it has only happened once before, but right now I am absolutely speechless and still scraping my jaw off the floor as I simultaneously scrape my head off the ceiling.

In fact it's such a rare event for me to be speechless that it's probably worth making a note in your diaries.

This blog has been shortlisted by ComputerWeekly.com for the award for the Open Source in Business category in the IT Blog Awards.

So for those of you that are still waiting I'd like to tell you that it really is true and life really is that simple.

I am joomla hear me roarI was getting my mp3 player ready for my summer holiday today, yes a very late summer holiday, when I heard a favourite old song by Helen Reddy from the 70's.

Somehow it just seemed to be very appropriate if you change just one word.

erev rosh hashana internet minyanThis Erev Rosh HaShanahErev Rosh HaShanah I wasn't at ShulShul but I was at Shul. At least it felt like I was.

I'm not the greatest shul go-er but when I found out that AlythAlyth would be doing a live stream of their service over the Internet I just knew that was for me.

The idea of joining a service over the Internet may not appeal to everyone but as someone who spends their life online it was perfect for me.

Inspired, copied or plain stolen...

... the sad but true story of a developer who stole from another developer and got caught.

joomlart stole code from rocketthemeIf you ask two chefs to write a recipe for roast chicken you will get two different recipes but the chicken "might" taste similar.

If you ask two artists to paint your portrait you will get two different paintings but they will "look" similar.

If you ask two joomla developers to create a basic weather module you will get two different modules but they will both "show" the weather.

Or so you might think.
