I thought I might find one of the Fortune 500 companies that was using Joomla. But then one of my google dork searches turned up an absolute gem of a site, Enron.com
Who can forget the story of Enron
Enron was named "America's Most Innovative Company" by "Fortune magazine" for six consecutive years, from 1996 to 2001. It was on the Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" list in 2000, and had offices that were stunning in their opulence.
Yet despite it's huge annual turnover and connections with the high and mighty of the USA political and economic society it was all a fraud.
By the end of 2001 the truth was out, much of the $101 billion annual revenue was fictitious and the stack of cards that the company was built on collapsed.
Bankruptcy and beyond
Enron entry into bankruptcy in 2001 was one of the largest ever and the battle began to sell assets and pay off the debtors.
Enron was renamed "Enron Creditors Recovery Corp" in 2004 and legal actions began to get compensation from the banks, auditors, accountants and advisers who it believed helped Enron deceive the public. This led to the collapse of Arthur Andersen one of the largest accountants in the world and to multi-billion compensation settlements,
Since 2004 the new Enron has been able to recover assets and pay its creditors the enormous sum of $21.598 billion and it's not over yet.
Joomla - Value for Money
The old Enron might have had a reputation for its opulence but for the new Enron it's all about paying it's creditors. There doesn't appear to have been much love applied to it's joomla web site but it does it's job.
Has there ever been a joomla web site before for a company whose sole aim to date has been to give away over $20 billion dollars.
This blog post is part of a series during the World Cup aiming to highlight the wide spread of joomla across the world.
