The Joomla World Cup - The Netherlands and The World's Largest Hotel Chain

Written by Brian Teeman
Best Western Hotel - Joomla

Initially I was disappointed that The Netherlands beat Denmark today in the World Cup as it looked like it was going to prevent me from writing this blog post.

I spotted the other day that the Danish web site for Best Western Hotels was powered by Joomla and I had this blog post all ready to publish until they lost.

Then I dug a little further and saw that the Dutch Best Western Hotel site was also Joomla.

(And if Turkey or Ireland were in the World Cup I could have mentioned them as well)

Best Western Hotels is the largest hotel chain in the world with over 4,000 hotels across the world providing approximately 400,000 guests with a bed to sleep in every night of the year.

Unlike some other hotel brands Best Western operates as a franchise where each hotel is independently owned and operated.

It's always interesting to compare and contrast the different national web sites of global brands. Even if the different national groups maintain a level of independence they usually ensure that the global brand is consistently represented with the same "look and feel".

As you can see the Dutch, Danish, Turkish and Irish sites are all exceedingly similar to the non-joomla USA, UK and Australian sites.

The Joomla powered Best Western Hotel sites all use a custom joomla installation featuring joomfish, several yootheme modules, Simple Image Gallery PRO from joomlaworks and a single theme.

This custom joomla distribution especialy created for Best Western members has been created by Irish web development company i2iDesign.

This blog post is part of a series during the World Cup aiming to highlight the wide spread of joomla across the world.

About Brian Teeman

  • As a co-founder of Joomla! and OpenSourceMatters Inc I've never been known to be lacking an opinion or being too afraid to express it.

Despite what some people might think I'm a shy and modest man who doesnt like to blow his own trumpet or boast about achievements.

But it seems that no blog exists without an "About" page so rather than talk about what an amazingly great guy I am and list all the things I've achieved (and failed at) in life from my Cycling Proficiency Test in 1976 to winning an award for the "UK Individual Contribution to Open / Source" in 2005 here are some links.
