Joomla 1.6 development

Written by Brian Teeman
php code

On friday I blogged that the current state of the joomla svn was not in a testable state.

Well after a hiatus in activity there has been a renewed burst in activity over at joomlacode.org and I highly recommend that all developers for joomla check it out now and follow development.

There is a very helpful mailing list that you can subscribe to for instant notification of any "commits" to the joomla 1.6 development trunk but there is nothing better than doing a full checkout.

If you're not familiar with an SVN repository then you will need some software to help you, personaly I use TortoiseSVN and then do a checkout of:

http://joomlacode.org/svn/joomla/development/trunk/

A quick scan of the recent commits show several things that third party developers should be aware of. I won't go into detail here as a personal check is the best thing to do but one thing to keep an eye out for is for files moving location as the framework becomes separated from the cms.

There are also three new public mailing ists that developers can contribute to.

  1. Joomla General Development
  2. Joomla CMS development
  3. Joomla Framework development

With open SVN and public mailing lists there is no excuse for any developer not to become involved in the future of joomla.

About Brian Teeman

  • As a co-founder of Joomla! and OpenSourceMatters Inc I've never been known to be lacking an opinion or being too afraid to express it.

Despite what some people might think I'm a shy and modest man who doesnt like to blow his own trumpet or boast about achievements.

But it seems that no blog exists without an "About" page so rather than talk about what an amazingly great guy I am and list all the things I've achieved (and failed at) in life from my Cycling Proficiency Test in 1976 to winning an award for the "UK Individual Contribution to Open / Source" in 2005 here are some links.
