Job
I have my own company (Dutch Open Source) in providing research and consultancy services around open source webapplications.
If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ...
At the moment I'm quite busy on organizing the Dutch Joomladays (www.joomladays.nl) and working on a great project integrating Magento (an open source e-commerce platform) into Joomla, creating possibilities never seen before within open source webapplications. Take a look at www.yireo.com for more information.
I wish people would take more notice of ...
using open source! Really, it's not that hard..
A phrase I use far too often is ...
I should be sleeping...
The most suprising thing that has happened to me is ...
I'm not easily surprised
I'm good at ...
working late
I'm very bad at ...
waking up
The ideal night out is ...
...one with my closest friends, starting of with playing some poker or pool and then going for a dance in a club.
The best age to be is ...
The one I am right now (didn't I say that last year too...?)
What did you dream of becoming as a child?
What, you're telling me I'm not a dreaming child anymore? Crap... :(
My philosophy on life is ...
- that you should always try to improve yourself (whatever that may be),
- that you should help others and
- that you don't enforce your opinion on others (the latter is kind of my grudge against (any) religion).
How did you get involved in Joomla?
Well I needed something to replace a simple, custom made website/ blog somewhere back in 2003. I tried several systems until I met Mambo. I've been using it ever since (well, I did 'switch' tot Joomla of course). In 2005 I founded a Dutch community for the product and the website became very populair in a short time providing the local community with it own news, translations and forum support. I've been involved with the local Joomladays and this year I'm the main organizer for the event.
I am involved in Joomla because ....
...I love being part of the open source ecosystem and contributing to it.
What one feature would you like to see in Joomla?
I really can't make a choice between an advanced ACL and a replacement of the current sections/categories system (tagging!)... Joomla will need both (fast) if it wants to stay on top of it's competitors.
What is the first extension you install in Joomla?
JCE
. Not really any competition here is there...?

Low fat JAM on the iPhone
Back in April I published news about a Joomla administrator application for the iPhone.
With these trying times, $9.99 may be a lot for an iPhone user to invest on an iPhone App. This is why Covert Apps has just released a free, ad supported lite version, or "low fat" in Brit speak, of J Admin Mobile!
$9.99 truly isn't very much to be able to admin unlimited Joomla! sites from your iPhone, but in the world of iPhone Apps $9.99 is on the high end. JAM! lite is free and allows unlimited access to the Article tools available in the full version.
JAM! Lite actually has a few sorting features that aren't available on the full version. Apple has been on a rejection spree lately and the App was turned down once for an icon, and once since it mentioned upgrading to the full version. These new features were developed during this window and Covert Apps was kind enough to include them instead of pulling them out.
With the release of JAM! Lite, Covert Apps will now focus on new features, largely pulled from user requests http://jadminmobile.uservoice.com/
- Read more on JAM! and JAM! lite over at the home of the developers.

Job
I'm a freelance programmer.
If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ...
Working on some yet-to-be-released tools.
I wish people would take more notice of ...
What other people are doing in their jobs and hobbies. A little bit of investigation can open up all sorts of opportunities.
A phrase I use far too often is ...
"I think this will work..."
The most suprising thing that has happened to me is ...
Having people ask me to author books and videos.
I'm good at ...
Sitting down and explaining something step by step.
I'm very bad at ...
Winging presentations, talks, and classes.
The ideal night out is ...
... to let someone else plan the night out and tag along. Hopefully with a close group of friends and long conversation though.
The best age to be is ...
12. Old enough to figure things out, but not old enough to dismiss things so easily.
What did you dream of becoming as a child?
A software developer or an urban planner. I've done one of those so far ;)
My philosophy on life is ...
God created us, loves us, wants us to love him back, and wants us to love everyone else.
How did you get involved in Joomla?
By accident. I originally got involved with Mambo because the firm I was working with wanted to use it for all of their sites. I wrote a component tutorial and then the rest is history.
I am involved in Joomla because ....
It's a great way to share open-source software with the general public. You don't have to learn PHP, JavaScript, CSS, or even HTML to manage a Joomla! site. However, a lot of people who get involved with Joomla! eventually do learn these skills by sharing with other members of the Joomla! community. I like being a part of this.
What one feature would you like to see in Joomla?
Automatic updates. WordPress completely nailed this in their 2.7 branch. Having it in Joomla! would go a long way towards keeping sites patched.
What is the first extension you install in Joomla?
Any component I start coding. As a PHP programmer, I frequently find it easier to start creating my own components to get exactly what I want.
