If the world was run by Microsoft, Hollywood would be making movies like this.

At some point in a web developers life you will no doubt be asked to build a web site using the organisations standard font or some wierd and wonderful font a photoshop designer has set their heart on.

Despite much talk in the standards bodies to permit the embedding of fonts in a web page this is not yet a viable option and we are left to either convince the client they can only use web standard fonts or to create the text using an image.

You can never know enough so get yourself down to London on December 11th for the first visit to these shores of the Joomlatools crew, avoid a good kicking and learn from the black belts.

This is purpose designed to be a snappy day of interactivity and fun, with a hint of Bond mystery, the venue was used in a James Bond movie. (This apparently impresses johnny foreigner - but we all know that most of London has been in some sort of movie or other)

Too much email

There are many different approaches to keeping your email inbox under control. Personaly I always try to answer emails as they arrive as I fear that if I let them stack up I will never answer them.

Today I was pointed to a slightly different approach, although perhaps recipients of my email replies might feel that I have always used it.

I'm reliably informed that there will be snow in Denver between December 4th & 5th so if you want to help me build a snowman, or just share a beer or three, come along to CMS Expo.

There's going to be a big crowd of Joomla gurus, pros and fanboys there so why not pack your bag and jump on a plane and join us.

If the event is anything like Chicago back in May 2008 it's going to be  great time.

My birthday is November 1st, and it's always been fun to keep a track of famous events that happened on that day. This year I can add the end of the Microsoft Windows 3.11 to that list.

After 15 years you might have expected the first successful GUI for non Apple users to have quietly passed away some time ago.

Today I found a new book for Joomla! that aims to be a

"beginner's visual step-by-step guide to setting up useful websites using Joomla! in a few hours!"

Released under a Creative Commons Atrribution 2.5 India License.

This post has been through several revisions whilst I temper my anger!

A common e-mail from myself to some of the people that I have helped build web sites starts something like this....

"Very disappointed!!! I spent ages making your web site accessible to all. I spent ages showing you why it was important to make your web site accessible. I showed you web sites that didn't have any alt tags for images and how unusable that made your site. I showed you how easy it was to at the very minimum give an image an alt tag. And what do you do as soon as my back is turned...."

Obviously on this site it's on the top right corner of the page. But why is it there and can you still search the site if there isn't a search button?
