Where can I find Joomla?

Written by Brian Teeman
where is joomla and joomlday

I've just returned from a very successful Joomla!Day in Germany and had an amzing time.

I will be blogging more about the event and my experience in Germany in the next few days but before I do I should explain what a Joomla!Day is.

A Joomla!Day is something fairly unique to Joomla. Other Open Source projects have global conferences or organise gatherings around generic Open Source events such as LinuxTag. Joomla!Day is different as it is organised on a National or Regional basis.

Joomla!Day is something very close to my heart. I spoke at perhaps the first large gathering in what was then the Mambo Community in Bangkok and a few months later spoke at the first "MamboDay" event in Bonn, Germany, I then organised one of the very first Joomla!Days, in Leeds, UK.

Although each event is different and has its own unique flavour the basic concept is the same.

Joomla!Day is a place for "all" users of Joomla to gather together, listen to speakers, participate in discussions, share experiences and most importantly have a great time.

Each event aims to satisfy the needs of "all" users irrespective of their experience, level of expertise or knowledge. It does not matter if you have built a single Joomla web site for yourself or if you make your living in some way connected to Joomla. All are welcome.

In the last year we have seen a large growth in the number of Joomla!Days being held around the world. Some countries are now in their fourth year but for others it is/was the first time that Joomla users could gather together.

I have counted 22 Joomla!Day events that have either taken place or are scheduled to have taken place in 2009. That's an incredibly impressive number of Joomla!Days.

If there isn't a Joomla!Day happening near you then why not organise one yourself?

The Joomla! Events team will be more than happy to help you plan and organise your own event.

About Brian Teeman

  • As a co-founder of Joomla! and OpenSourceMatters Inc I've never been known to be lacking an opinion or being too afraid to express it.

Despite what some people might think I'm a shy and modest man who doesnt like to blow his own trumpet or boast about achievements.

But it seems that no blog exists without an "About" page so rather than talk about what an amazingly great guy I am and list all the things I've achieved (and failed at) in life from my Cycling Proficiency Test in 1976 to winning an award for the "UK Individual Contribution to Open / Source" in 2005 here are some links.
