That was the week that was
Wow! what a couple of weeks.
It all started with the "ash cloud" and several days spent in a fruitless search trying to find an alternative route to JoomlaDay
in the Netherlands.
For a while it looked like I wouldn't make it but right at the last moment the airlines convinced the governments of Europe that it was perfectly safe to fly through a cloud of volcanic debris.
Joomla!Day is a unique opportunity to put a face to a name, meet up with old friends and generally catch up with everything that's happening in the Joomlasphere.
Twitter, skype, email and forums are all ok but you can't beat a face to face meetup, especially when you don't share a common first language.
It's amazing how often something gets lost in translation
As well as all the face to face meetings I was scheduled to give two presentations, The 10 Commandments as handed down by Brian at Mt Joomla
and Joomla! What's in a name
I think both presentations went well, unfortunately "someone" forgot to press record for the 10 Commandments and the slides alone won't really do the presentation justice but after the first day error we made certain that the second presentation was recorded
Tomorrow I will post the video of "True story of why it's called Joomla! and what it could have been called instead"
After a delayed flight home there was just time to change the clothes in my bag and head off on another international trip, this time to Scotland.
In the USA 100 years is a long time, in the UK 100 miles is a long way.
OK some people might not consider travelling from England to Scotland as international travel but they talk a different language and use different money. How more international do you want it?
Three days of Joomla training for one of the many agencies of the Scottish Parliament just reinforced in my mind that the supposed panacea for corporate adoption of Joomla doesn't lie with ACL, nested categories and comments.
They just wanted a strong open platform with a plethora of extensions and a large community to avoid "vendor lockin"
