Are you a "supporter/fan" of Joomla?

Would you like a simple and easy way to show your support?

How about joining a "Joomla Supporters Club".

Some blog post updates

Attention: open in a new window. PDF | Print | E-mail Sat 27 Jun 09 23:00 Lost and Found Brian Teeman

blog post updatesThought I would spend a little time today looking back at some of my previous blog posts and post a few updates.

In this fast moving and ever changing world it doesn't take long for "breaking news" to become "old news".

Michael J Jackson danced his last mambo

Attention: open in a new window. PDF | Print | E-mail Thu 25 Jun 09 22:10 Mister Men Brian Teeman

Michael JacksonOK I know what you're thinking this is a blog about joomla and web development so what is Brian doing writing about Michael Jackson for. Sure his death is sad news, especially for those of us who grew up with The Jackson 5 but why give it space on this blog.

What many of you may not know is that in December 2004 his web site "MJJSource.com - The Official Source of Michael Jackson News & Information" was launched  using Mambo.

How much does joomla cost?

Attention: open in a new window. PDF | Print | E-mail Wed 24 Jun 09 11:36 Joomla GPS Brian Teeman

how much does joomla costThat might sound like a silly question as we all know that Joomla cost zero pounds, zero dollars, zero euros, zero yen, zero yuan etc. But it is not as simple as that.

Earlier today I twittered

Trying to write new blog post "how much does #joomla cost" not easy. struggling with some of the math.

Joomla does not cost nothing.

Joomla registration - the missing step

Attention: open in a new window. PDF | Print | E-mail Tue 23 Jun 09 14:17 Extensions Brian Teeman

joomla registration the missing pluginOne of the slides I had to drop from my "Hidden Joomla Secrets" presentation was an ugly hack to solve what for me has been a long standing issue with Joomla user registration.

By default joomla provides no method to pre-approve registrations before providing access. Currently there are two choices

  1. Automatically approve on signup.
  2. Automatically approve once email has been confirmed.

There is no option for the site administrator to approve registrations first. For me that has been an issue on many sites, hence the ugly hack, and I see many people installing complex extensions e.g. Community BuilderCommunity Builder to resolve this simple issue.

Not any more!!
