If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ...
Not quite so late for a Joomla client training session!

I wish people would take more notice of ...
Naming their Photoshop PSD layers & project scope creep.

A phrase I use far too often is ...
"Hey that’s cool” and “That’s fantastic/brill” – really shouldn’t be saying things like this at 40+

The most suprising thing that has happened to me is ...
Getting through my kids teenage years – never thought I’d cope. Plus learning to fly, even though I hate heights.

I'm good at ...
Talking to clients & saving them money/time by using open source applications.

I'm very bad at ...
Saying no… I’d work for free if free paid the bills!

The ideal night out is ...
A curry, a cold beer & the company of my wife – no kids!

The best age to be is ...
40+ it gives you wisdom and lots of scenarios to look back on and learn from.

What did you dream of becoming as a child?
A pilot (still trying), a professional rugby player (gave up with bad knees) and have my own business (got there eventually!)

My philosophy on life is ...
You will never achieve what you never begin...

How did you get involved in Joomla?
Started using the big CMS’s & ECM’s like Mediasurface, Percussion Rhythmyx, Reddot, etc… whilst contracting at big corporates in the late 90’s. Thinking how cool it was for someone to be able to update their websites without techy knowledge, lead me on the path of going through nearly every CMS available. Over the years I’ve used Drupal, Wordpress any many others – including Joomla… but ‘totally’ fell in love with Joomla from v1.5.

I am involved in Joomla because ....
It helps pays the bills, saves my clients money, has a great & responsive community and has the most useful extension directory on the planet.

What one feature would you like to see in Joomla?
A friendlier & more useful UI frontend – one where users would never have to go into the backend, to maintain menu’s, section & categories, etc.

What is the first extension you install in Joomla?

Always JCE editor, then sh404sef, then Google Analytics.

Complete the sentance "Joomla rocks the world because ..."
"…I always get a great reception from clients whilst demoing, nothing is impossible & it helps pay the bills!"

About Brian Teeman

  • As a co-founder of Joomla! and OpenSourceMatters Inc I've never been known to be lacking an opinion or being too afraid to express it.

Despite what some people might think I'm a shy and modest man who doesnt like to blow his own trumpet or boast about achievements.

But it seems that no blog exists without an "About" page so rather than talk about what an amazingly great guy I am and list all the things I've achieved (and failed at) in life from my Cycling Proficiency Test in 1976 to winning an award for the "UK Individual Contribution to Open / Source" in 2005 here are some links.
